Where in the world is...

Carmen Sandiego?

or the Pin Valley I guess. Well friends, I'm here to tell you.

It's right here. I've included all of my recent travels on this map, so you have a sense of where I am. (click on the map for a larger image).

I'm in Kaza at the moment, which is the closest city to the Pin Valley, and the only place nearby with phone and internet access. I traveled to Kaza twice before for the day to check email, but there was no electricity, so the internet places weren't open. I'm here for three days however, and the power has so far been on for a few hours in the afternoon and evenings. All of the nuns are in Kaza too, because HH the Dalai Lama is inaugurating a new monastery here and giving an Avalokitesvara initiation. I bullied the guards into letting me sit with the nuns the first day, which was great. The sangha are all right in front of HH, but the foreigner's section is off to the side where you can't see much. I skipped out this morning because I had a killer headache and didn't feel like fighting the crowds to get in. I am instead on the glorious internet. I never thought I'd miss it so much. Well, actually I did. But I didn't think I wouldn't be able to check my email for a whole month! I hope no one was overly worried. If you don't hear from me for the rest of the month, now you know why.

In case this is my last update for a while, I'm back on August 4th and will post all sorts of pictures when I return. for now the connection is really really sloooooow, so I'm limiting myself to this one map.

Miss you all!

  1. I can't imagine you bullying the guards - or anyone else, for that matter...I was SO happy to hear from you yesterday (after my initial sleep-deprived reaction-sorry). Take care of yourself. I love you!
